ICOMOS-Nigeria President, Mr Aliyu Abdu, visited the Butara community of Bokkos, Plateau State. The Stone Causeway National Monument is located in this area. The visit was facilitated by Prof. Joseph Mangut, a member of ICOMOS-Nigeria’s Board of Trustees. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with the community their desire to restore Stone Causeway National Monument, with the support of ICOMOS-Nigeria. The community also plans to rehabilitate some of their cultural sites and integrate them into a “cultural village”. They appealed to ICOMOS-Nigeria, as a professional body, to assist the community with advice and necessary technical and managerial inputs to manage and promote their heritage sites.
