ICOMOS has established technical sections, or International Scientific Committees (ISCs), on various cultural heritage themes and issues. Each ISC consists of ICOMOS members who are internationally renowned expert specialists in each subject and designated by their own national committee. As such, ISCs undertake research, develop conservation theory, guidelines, and charters, foster training for better heritage conservation, promote international exchange of scientific information and carry out common projects. They develop their own program and submit it to the Executive Committee for approval as well as their annual report of activities.
