The United State Ambassador Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) Grant was awarded to International Counsel on Monuments and Sites in Nigeria(ICOMOS-Nigeria) on the conservation of the tangible and intangible Heritage of Sukur World Heritage Sites. The objective of the grant is to enhance the preservation of the Sukur UNESCO World Heritage Site through documentation, conservation, and improvement initiatives. Other partners in the project are National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Amadu Bello Zaria, America University of Nigeria Yola, Sukur Community, Washington State University USA and University of Calgary, Canada.
The signing ceremony for the award was held on the 15th February, 2024 at the united states embassy Abuja. Present at the ceremony are; the Acting Counselor of United State of America, the Honorable Minister for Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Mrs Hannatu Musa Musawa, the President of ICOMOS-Nigeria, the Vice counsellor of ABU Zaria, and the representative of the president of America University of Nigeria.
